Disabilities Program
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development supports the education of students with disabilities.
To be eligible for the Program for Students with Disabilities, a student must meet strict criteria for one of the following categories:
- Physical disability
- Visual impairment
- Severe behaviour disorder
- Hearing impairment
- Intellectual disability
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Severe language disorder with critical educational needs.
The Student Support Group (SSG) which is a partnership between parents, school staff and other professionals, discusses the support required for the student’s educational needs. This is achieved through the development of educational goals and a tailored educational program.
If you believe your child may fit one of these categories, please contact our Program for Students with Disabilities coordinator as soon as possible. Making an application for additional funding is a complex, time consuming process as there are very strict timelines and criteria that must be met.
